TAKE BACK THE NIGHT
Queer-feministische Demo gegen patriarchale und queer-feindliche Gewalt am 30.04.2023 in Berlin
TAKE BACK THE NIGHT
Queer-feminist demo against patriarchal and queer hostile violence in Berlin on 30.04.
Over the past year, we have seen trans, inter, non-binary, and agender people, women, and lesbians experience an escalation of patriarchal and queer hostile violence: Trans people are being murdered on the streets; most recently, 16-year-old Brianna died in the UK in February 2023 after being stabbed in a park. In Germany, Malte succumbed to his injuries on September 2 after being struck down by a queer-hostile attacker on the sidelines of the Münster CSD. The revolution in Iran sparked by the murder of Jina Mahsa Amini continues to be violently put down, and patriarchal violence there culminates in torture, killing, and rape. In Afghanistan, since the Taliban came to power, women and girls have been systematically displaced from social life. The feminist revolution in Rojava continues to face daily attacks. We can continue this list, but one thing we can state for sure – the problem is the patriarchal and queer hostile violence that happens to us every day and is being propagated by the state: In courtrooms, by the police, and by all the other institutions that pretend to protect us but actually attack and oppress us in order to preserve themselves. The problem is not that we are in public spaces, functioning as part of society, breaking supposed mores, or standing up for our rights to self-determination.
But we will not be intimidated, because self-defense means attack! The ongoing attempts to criminalize and crush our demonstration in the last 2 years do not stop us from going out on the streets again and voicing our anger and our hatred for the cops, the state, the capitalist patriarchy, and those who oppress us. Our strength is to unite and organize, to be considerate and appreciative of each other, to be aware of different struggles and affectednesses, and to show solidarity with each other. We resist the attempts to isolate, dominate and eradicate us: That’s why on April 30, we will once again walk loudly and militantly on Berlin’s streets!
We decided to write out trans, inter, non-binary, and agender people, women, and lesbians to break the perception that FLINTA* spaces are mainly reserved for cis female people. We want to explicitly invite trans, inter, non-binary, and agender people to our demonstration. Identity can’t be tied to appearances, TERFs (trans-exclusionary radical feminists) and SWERFs (sex worker-exclusionary radical feminists) are not welcome at this demo.
It will start at 7pm at Mariannenplatz. There will be a rally with music and performances. After that, we will move on to the walking demo.
